Eugene pest control

We Oregon's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Eugene rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Eugene pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
  • Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
  • Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
  • Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
  • When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires

Eugene Rodent Removal Tip:

How do I inspect my home for rat entry holes?
Like it or not, rats are a common problem in households all across the world. The two most common types of rat that you are likely to encounter in urban areas are the Norway rat and the black rat. And while rats are generally maligned and not as scary as people make out, finding one may still be an unpleasant experience.

So in this article, we'll look at how to properly check your home for rat entry points.

Why should you check for rat entry holes? And when?
The obvious answer to this is, you should check for rat entry holes so that you can fix them and stop rats from getting into your home. What's more, what starts out as a small-ish hole that only fits a mouse or rat can easily be stretched out to accommodate larger so-called pests, such as skunks, opossums, and so on. So the sooner you get those cracks and holes taken care of, the better.

As for when you should look for them, there are two answers. One is, you should look for rat entry holes if you've had a rat problem. Usually, people tend to focus on catching the rat first, and then looking for the hole and that's usually a good MO. It's important to identify the hole it came through, otherwise simply catching the rat doesn't solve the problem.

Secondly, you should check for cracks and holes on your property on a regular basis (think every 6 months or so), to make sure everything is in proper working order.

Where should I look?
rodent trapping At first, you can start by inspecting the walls and floors inside your house, gradually making your way to the exterior as you go. Once outside, you should go for a brief inspection around the house, checking the base of the building first. Always wear protective gear while doing this, on the off-chance that there is a hole or crawl-space and that some creature has already found its way into it. You never know.

Next comes the hard part, as you will need to get up on a ladder and inspect the walls of your property, and eventually the roof itself. Check the point where the wall meets the roof, as well as window frames, as these are common problem points.

Also pay particular attention to wood boards, which rats can chew through.

Onto the roof!
Now, we urge you to only head up to the roof if you've done this sort of thing before, if you are fairly confident in this venture, and only as long as you observe local safety regulations. Once up on the roof, you will want to crawl about, checking for cracks and holes, as well as loose boards and areas that might become a problem in the future. Also keep a careful eye on roof vents, which often provide easy access to rodents and other home invaders.

Should you inspect the house yourself?
If you're in good condition and trust that you can safely do so, then yes, you can do the home inspection yourself. If, however, you don't feel confident about doing this, that's not a problem. You can just as easily call a professional, and often, this is a better choice. Since these people do this on a regular basis, they know what to look for and might inspect the house more efficiently.

What do you do next?
If you've identified a crack or rat entry hole, you will want to fix it immediately, because otherwise, it's more than likely other rats will come through. You might also want to take additional measures, such as switching up the way you store food and your cleaning habits.
